Manage exports and jobs with Shopify Sidekick

Altera now plugs into Shopify Sidekick, the AI assistant built into your Shopify admin. Describe what you need in plain language and Sidekick handles the Altera side for you, no need to open the app first. 🚀 What’s New # Sidekick integration - Ask about Altera right inside Shopify admin, from the Sidekick chat. Conversational exports - Say “export all my orders as a CSV” and Sidekick opens a pre-filled export for you to review and run. Specific records and filters - Ask to export this product, last week’s orders, or just the columns and metafields you want. Job status at a glance - Ask about your recent imports and exports and get the latest status with a link to the job. Quick downloads - Ask for the file from a finished export and Sidekick hands you a download link. Built-in help - Ask how-to questions or what an error code means, answered from the Altera help center. Exports never start on their own, so you always review the pre-filled setup and click Start export yourself. See the Sidekick guide to get started.

Updated to Shopify API version 2026-04

Altera now runs on the latest Shopify API version, keeping your imports and exports aligned with the newest platform features and fixes. You shouldn’t notice any changes in your workflow, but please reach out if you encounter any issues or have questions about the update. Improvements # Shopify API version - upgraded from 2026-01 to 2026-04, bringing access to the latest API capabilities and improvements.

Store-wide data permissions

You could already control permissions per API key. Now store owners can set data permissions that apply to everyone on the store, including the app UI and CLI. What’s New # Store-wide data permissions - Control which data types (products, orders, customers, etc.) can be imported or exported on your store. Find it under Settings > Data permissions. Per-type controls - Set separate permissions for import and export. For example, allow exporting orders but block order imports. Full enforcement - Permissions are enforced on job creation, re-runs, file downloads, and CLI access so restricted data types cannot be accessed through any path. Owner-only access - Only the store owner can configure data permissions, keeping control with the right person.

We’ve rolled out 24/7 email support so you can reach us whenever you need a hand. 🚀 What’s New # 24/7 email support – send us a message any time of day and our team will get back to you. 🔜 Coming Soon # Live chat support – real-time chat is on the way for even faster answers.

Control data access with API key permissions

You can now set specific permissions on API keys to control which data types each key can export or import, giving you better security and access control for integrations. 🚀 What’s New # API key permissions – limit export and import access on a per-data-type basis when creating or editing API keys. Granular access control – restrict keys to only the data types they need, like products-only or orders-only access.

See import results in real time

When running an import, you can now see a preview of your results right on the job detail page, making it easier to verify that items were created or updated correctly. 🚀 What’s New # Import results preview – view up to 25 successful, failed, and skipped items per data type directly on the job detail page (learn more).
