Shopify variants can now carry up to 20 barcodes, each with an optional type. A new Variant Barcodes column lets you manage a manufacturer UPC, a private-label EAN, and an ASIN for the same variant from one spreadsheet, while Variant Barcode keeps working exactly as before.
🚀 What’s new#
- Variant Barcodes column - lists every barcode of a variant in one cell, separated by commas; the first one is the primary barcode (see Variant Barcodes).
- Barcode types - add the type in square brackets, like
4006381333931 [EAN]orB08N5WRWNW [ASIN], and Shopify checks the value against that standard. - Exports - product exports include the column, so an export imports back without losing a barcode or a type.
- Sample file - the multiple barcodes sample shows the format next to the existing column.
🔧 Improvements#
- Variant Barcode stays the same - it still holds one barcode, the primary one, and files from Matrixify or supplier feeds import as before.
- Barcode types stay put - a barcode written without a type keeps the type it already has in Shopify.
⚠️ Heads-up#
- Blank Variant Barcode - leaving the cell blank now removes every barcode from the variant, not only the first one. Remove the column from your file to leave barcodes unchanged.
